The Conversation I Have With Every Client This Time of Year

We’re already at the end of summer. Can you believe it? Some of you are just back from vacation, some of you still have one more trip planned, and the kids are already getting ready to go back to school. In a few weeks we’re all back to reality, new schedules, new routines, and honestly, a little less time for ourselves.

I love the summer. I’m a summer person, no question. But I’ll tell you the truth, because I always do: Summer is the hardest season on your skin. Sweat, humidity, dryness, and sun. It all adds up. And this is also the season of parties, weddings, and reunions, when you actually want to look and feel your best.

So let’s talk about what’s really happening to your skin, and what to do about it before September.

What Summer Actually Does to Your Skin

Heat and humidity push your skin to overproduce oil while sun exposure quietly breaks down collagen underneath. Sweat pulls moisture and electrolytes out through the skin barrier, which is why so many of you are dry and oily at the same time. It’s not a contradiction, it’s just summer. The damage isn’t only what you see today; UV exposure is cumulative, which is exactly why the next few weeks matter as much as the ones you already lived through.

Five Things I Recommend

Clean skin first. The right face wash — not just any face wash — is the foundation of a summer glow. If your cleanser is stripping you or leaving residue, nothing else you do will work as well.

Exfoliate three times a week. Not more. Sweat and sunscreen build up and dull the skin; over-exfoliating in the heat just irritates it.

Cool it down and hydrate from the inside. A cooling, hydrating mask helps, but so does what you’re actually putting in your body. Magnesium and vitamin D3 are two I always ask my clients about, and one dose usually isn’t enough to move the needle.

Vitamin C and beta carotene. Non-negotiable for me. If you’d rather eat it than take it, berries and watermelon work beautifully too. Sprinkle a little cinnamon over it if you want an extra boost.

Consider a treatment that actually lifts. Which brings me to the one everyone’s been asking me about.

Radio Frequency RF: The Treatment Everyone’s Whispering About

You’ve probably heard mixed things about radiofrequency skin tightening, some of it hype, some of it real. Let me explain what’s actually happening, because I think you deserve to know before you book anything.

RF uses radiofrequency energy, delivered through the skin’s surface, to heat the deeper dermal layer to a precise temperature. That controlled heat does two things: it contracts existing collagen fibers immediately, which is why you see a lift right away, and it signals your body to produce new collagen over the following weeks, which is why the results keep improving after you leave. No needles, no cutting, essentially no downtime. You can go back to your day right after.

We’ve been using it in the studio for over seven years, mainly around the neck and cheeks, and I still get surprised by how visible the lift is after the very first session. That said, it’s cumulative — the results build with repeat treatments, and if you’ve never tried it, don’t judge it on one session alone. Certain areas of the face respond better than others, which is exactly why I like to assess in-person before promising anyone a specific result.

It’s become one of our most requested pre-event treatments, especially for brides — with a tighter, more lifted, more contoured face before the big day, without anyone knowing you did anything at all.

This month it’s our monthly special, so mention it when you book and you’ll get the discounted price.

A Few Real Tricks for the Tail End of Summer

If you don’t have a proper after-sun cream on hand, plain sour cream applied before bed is an old European trick many people swear by for calming a sunburn overnight.

If your skin is more sensitive, look for a colloidal silver toner. It’s naturally anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial, so it’s gentle even when your barrier is compromised.

Keep a peppermint oil roller behind your neck to cool your body temperature on the worst days, and make yourself a peppermint tea with lemon and honey in the afternoon. Small ritual, real relief.
